Best Dog-Friendly Restaurants & Cafés in San Juan del Sur
San Juan del Sur is an easy town to explore with a dog. A lot of restaurants are open-air, patios are common, and seeing a dog stretched out under the table while someone eats breakfast is pretty normal here.
These are six spots we’d recommend when you want to bring your dog along.
Our Picks
1. Royal Paws Café
Right next to Royal Paws Studio near Mercado Municipal.
Dogs aren’t just allowed here, they’re kind of the point. Grab a coffee, focaccia sandwich, dessert, or ice cream while your dog hangs out with you, or stop in before or after a grooming appointment.
We also have treats made specifically for dogs, including dog ice cream and cookies.
See the Royal Paws Café page for more.
2. Dockside
At the south end of the bay near the port, Dockside is one of the easiest places in town to bring a dog.
There’s plenty of outdoor seating overlooking the water, plus breakfast, coffee, lunch, dinner, and drinks. They’re genuinely dog-friendly too. A recent customer specifically mentioned staff bringing out a water bowl for their dog.
It’s especially nice in the morning or around sunset when you can pair it with a walk along the bay.
3. Ding Repair Café
Ding Repair is a great breakfast or lunch stop if you want something healthier.
Think coffee, smoothie bowls, breakfast food, salads, grain bowls, juices, and plenty of vegetarian and vegan options.
It has outdoor seating and a relaxed atmosphere, and the café has been listed as pet-friendly. In 2026 it even hosted a puppy meet-and-greet after a local rescue dog hike.
4. Pane Nostro
If coffee and smoothie bowls aren’t going to cut it, go get pizza.
Pane Nostro is an Italian restaurant serving handmade pasta and pizza with outdoor seating. Dogs are allowed both inside and outside according to its current local listing.
It’s a good dog-friendly dinner option when you want an actual sit-down meal rather than another café stop.
5. The Hip
The Hip is more casual pub than café, with breakfast, burgers, drinks, live music, and Canadian/American-style comfort food.
It’s centrally located and currently lists itself as dog-friendly, making it an easy option if you’re already wandering around town with your dog and want somewhere relaxed to eat.
If there’s live music or a busy night crowd, dogs that prefer quieter places will probably be happier earlier in the day.
6. El Social
El Social is a good evening option if you’re looking for something different from breakfast cafés and beachfront restaurants.
It’s an Asian-fusion restaurant and bar in central San Juan with sushi, drinks, and a laid-back atmosphere. The restaurant specifically describes itself as dog-friendly.
This is more of a dinner-and-drinks stop, so keep the time of day and your dog’s tolerance for a busier environment in mind.
A Few Tips for Eating Out With Your Dog
Outdoor seating and shade are usually the best combination, especially during the hotter part of the day.
Keep your dog on a short enough leash that servers can move around the table, bring water if you’re going somewhere unfamiliar, and remember that a restaurant that’s relaxing at 9:00 a.m. can feel completely different when it’s packed on a Saturday night.
For nervous or reactive dogs, quieter mornings are usually the easiest time to go out.
