Where to Get Your Dog Groomed in San Juan del Sur

Dogs in San Juan del Sur get dirty. Beach sand, dusty streets, humidity that turns a small tangle into a mat. If you’re looking for grooming here, you want someone who books appointments, works one dog at a time, and knows what this climate does to coats.
Reina does the grooming at Royal Paws Studio downtown, near Mercado Municipal. Below is how we work, what coats need here, and how to book.
Royal Paws grooming: how a visit works
- By appointment only. Message WhatsApp with your dog’s name, coat type, and what you want done.
- One dog in the room at a time so the day stays quieter.
- Drop off, or wait next door at the café with a coffee.
- Photos help before the first visit, especially for haircut length and face styles.
- Tell us about nerves, biting history, hot spots, or allergies before clippers come out.
While you wait, grab a coffee at Royal Paws Café. If you need shampoo or a brush for home between visits, check the pet shop.
What people usually book
Full groom
Bath, dry, brush-out, haircut or tidy, nails, ears as needed. This is the reset after beach weeks or when a curly coat has gone feral.
Bath and brush
For dogs that don’t need a full haircut but are sandy, salty, or itchy. Sand and salt stick. A proper dry matters as much as the wash.
Nails, ears, sanitary tidy
Short appointments for maintenance between full grooms. Useful for short coats like Solo’s, our lab, where the haircut isn’t the issue but nails still sneak up.
Puppy introductions
Short, calm first visits so the table and dryer aren’t a trauma story. Better to do a few easy sessions than one long fight.

What coats need in this climate
Long coats and curly coats need more brushing between visits than in a cooler, drier place. Humidity mats faster. Double coats shed in waves. If your dog swims in the bay, rinse when you can and don’t wait until mats are a project.
- Curly / poodle-type coats: keep a schedule. Waiting “until it looks bad” usually means a longer appointment.
- Long silky coats: brush at home between visits, especially behind ears and in the armpits.
- Short coats: still book nails and baths. Sand and fleas don’t care that the haircut is easy.
What we look for in any groomer (including us)
- Appointments, not a packed walk-in floor.
- Someone who asks about temperament and skin before the clippers.
- A calm pace. One dog at a time is better for everyone.
- Honest talk when a coat needs a shorter cut to get healthy again.
Before you come in
- Brush out what you can at home. Weeks of mats take longer on the table.
- Mention allergies, hot spots, or anything the vet flagged lately.
- Bring a collar or harness you’re happy walking with afterward.
- If your dog is new to grooming, say so. We’ll plan the first visit accordingly.
How to book
WhatsApp us with your dog’s name, breed or coat type, and the service (bath, full groom, nails, puppy visit). Visitors and locals both book. If your dog is nervous, say so ahead of time.
